Ex-inmate with HIV gets $150K for getting harsher punishment from prison

Oregon hospital removes gender identification from bracelets

Transgender Day of Remembrance vigil held in Carbondale

The Saluki Rainbow Network, a student organization focused on building an LGBTQ friendly community on campus at SIU, held a Vigil in honor of Transgender Day of Remembrance which happens on November 20. During the vigil they read off 320 names of transgendered individuals who have lost their lives due to anti-transgender violence this year alone. Codi Cornett who identifies as transfeminine is the Treasurer of the Saluki Rainbow Network says that the acts of violence could not only stem from transphobia but also from acts of racism and misogyny, as many on the list are transgendered women of color.

B.C. is ahead of the curve when it comes to transgender rights, and education on inclusion in schools is improving levels of acceptance, said Morgane Oger, the chair of the Trans Alliance Society.

Feds want to write transgender students out of Title IX, but colleges should tread carefully

In October, a leaked memo revealed the Trump administration is crafting a narrow definition of gender under Title IX that would be determined by sex at birth and verified through a birth certificate or genetic testing - a move that would leave the some 1.4 million Americans who are transgender without key federal civil rights protections. Title IX, the federal anti-sex discrimination law colleges must follow if they receive federal funds, does not currently define sex.

CCJ rules in favour of Guyanese transgender women - -says...

The Caribbean Court of Justice this morning allowed an appeal by a group of Guyanese transgender women contending that the law prohibiting cross-dressing is among other things unconstitutionally vague and contravenes their right to freedom of expression. To this end, the court has ruled that Section 153 of the Summary Jurisdiction Act complained of by the appellants be struck from the laws of Guyana.

Professor sues university for being 'punished' after calling female transgender student 'sir'

Nicholas Meriwether, a philosophy professor at Shawnee State University, filed a lawsuit in U.S. District Court this month against university officials.
